Since December 17th 1903 when the first aeroplane was invented, man and woman have been travelling across the world in search of relaxation, new experiences, new people and life changing adventures. This fact is no different going into 2012 and that chance to have a life changing voyage is still on offer as youth worker Paul Drayton-Manor and 16 year old Jordan Spreadbury on Lambeth have come together to create the youth group, The 12 Tribes Development Trust.
Currently applying for money from the Commonwealth Youth Exchange group, the two are campaigning for sponsors to help them on their journey to taking 6-10 young people to the Kitti Village in Gambia. The 3-week trip will see the young people involved (and that could be you!) getting the chance to experience living in a tribe and also improving the tribe’s infrastructure. From a point a view of myself whose been on a youth exchange, this opportunity is one that can only be described as life defining (as cheesy as it sounds!). It amazing to be completely taken out your comfortable zone, meet people you’d definitely never get to met anyway else, do things you’d never get to do and its also something when your old and only have the energy to move from your living room to your kitchen for a cuppa, you’ll be able to look back on and think ‘woo, that was cool!’.
The trip is looking to take place in August 2012 but if travelling around across half the world isn’t really your thing but you want to still be involved, become a sponsor and know that you provided a young person out there was an experience that they’ll remember forget.
