The Barbican Weekender: Urban Stories, part of BBC’s Music Nation and the London 2012 Festival, returns with a bang with an action-packed weekend of dance, theatre and music. All events are free and take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 March from 10am until late – this event isn’t one to miss!
This year the theme is Urban Stories, where Shakespeare meets hip hop. Award-winning rapper Akala and his Hip Hop Shakespeare Company will work with 100 members of the public, leading the young people in singing, dancing and acting, as well as providing an insight into lyric-writing.
The two days will have a free stage set up with performances from Barbican Young Poets, East London Drummers and FREE performances from Live’s very own cover star RoxXxan.
Workshops will be available for the whole family to enjoy: street dancing classes with Boy Blue Entertainment and creative classes in graffiti, designing bags with urban style artwork and fascinating stores for the little ones, aged 2-5 years old, about the wonders of gravity!
And that’s not to mention the great variety of street foods that will be available in foyer stalls throughout the weekend.
So from music to dance to poetry to fun-packed entertainment in the most incredible surroundings, it’s all on at Barbican Weekender. For more information visit http://www.barbican.org.uk/weekender
For those who don’t mind splashing the cash, there will be an Urban Classic concert in the Hall at 7:30 on the Saturday, featuring Fazer, Ms Dynamite, Devlin, Skepta and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Tickets from £10.
The Barbican, for those that have not been before, is a majestic concrete mass in the City of London that is a worth a visit for the architecture alone.
So put this in your diary – and we’ll see you there!
