Film: Win for the ‘Underdog’

The 28 year old East Londoner, Adam Deacon, was hysterical after winning a BAFTA award, but if you look at back issues of Live Magazine, we had him in 2006/7 before his hugely popular movie appearances.

Deacon has come a long way since that Live issue. He still proudly quotes himself as an underdog, claiming that his BAFTA win wasn’t  just an achievement for himself –  ‘‘Wow. This is mad. This is crazy. I cannot believe I am in the same place as people like Brad Pitt. It’s not just a win for me – it’s a win for the underdog.”

His rival nominees representing massive feature films such as Thor, War Horse and My Week With Marilyn, would have seemed more eligible to win rather than someone from  Shank and Kidulthood! but…he proved a lot of people wrong!

Having watched Deacon in films such as Kidulthood, Adulthood and Anuvahood, I am very proud to see him win the award. I cant wait to see what he comes up with next. His twitter page background is a poster for Payback Season, an action thriller. It looks completely different than what he has done before. Other flicks coming out soon are ‘Outside Bet’ and ‘Comedown’.  We’ll see how Deacon will do in the years ahead and judge whether he really is a ‘rising star’…

It’s so cool to see Deacon win this. And his reaction and acceptance speech were genuine and inspirational. Great piece, Johnny!
