So Capello quits…but what’s next?? Courtney investigates
Harry Redknapp began yesterday facing a prison sentence because of tax evasion charges, and ended it with the all-clear and rumours of him being the next England coach after Fabio Capello quit.
Capello, the 65-year-old Italian, resigned after a meeting Wednesday at the Football Association headquarters at Wembley Stadium. The meeting was called after the former AC Milan boss questioned his employer’s decision to strip John Terry’s captaincy. He said he would have preferred Terry to keep his armband in an Italian interview.
John Terry is awaiting trial over allegations of racist abuse towards Anton Ferdinand. Capello feels Terry is innocent and that too much trouble and confusion have been caused because of the trial.
Capello’s resignation creates an opportunity for the Spurs manager to be named the new national team boss either straightaway or at the end of the Premier League season. But so far Redknapp says he has not been thinking about the job.
