Overall the weaknesses of Grenade Thermo Detonator outweigh its strengths. The main problems with Grenade Thermo Detonator are the use of bitter orange powder (which is totally ineffective for promoting fat loss), the lack of any appetite suppressant, and a minuscule serving of green coffee bean. The only real selling points are the good green tea serving and the caffeine content. However, these are standards for fat burners – you’ll struggle to find a half-decent supplement without these things.
All-in-all, Grenade Thermo Detonator is a real let-down. We don’t know why this remains one of the most popular fat burners in the UK. It certainly doesn’t deserve to be.
Our Grenade Thermo Detonator Review
Grenade is one of the most well-known bodybuilding supplement brands in the UK. They make an exceptionally popular line of protein and weight gainer bars, they have a high-quality pre-workout and BCAA line, and they have recently started making things like glutamine powders. However, Grenade are best known for their fat burners. In fact, their brand is now almost synonymous with fat burners in the UK and Europe.
In this review, we’re going to look at their flagship product – Grenade Thermo Detonator fat burner.
First things first; what does this popular fat burner claim to do exactly?
Grenade Thermo Detonator is explicitly designed as a supplement for bodybuilders, strength athletes, and fighters. It is meant to be used in conjunction with a serious training regime and a properly controlled diet.
Put another way – Grenade Thermo Detonator is not a cheap diet pill designed for lazy housewives or people who can’t be bothered putting in the work in the gym or the kitchen.
The website doesn’t give a set of explicit benefits that all users can expect to get while using this fat burner.
However, we can gather from what it does say that Grenade Thermo Detonator delivers the following key benefits:
- Increased energy
- Increased fat metabolism
These are the key things that we look for from every fat burner.
Interestingly though, one thing that is missing from the benefits mentioned on the Grenade website is appetite suppression.
One thing we definitely struggle with while cutting is calorie control. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that overeating/binge eating is the biggest hurdle separating us from a successful, efficient cut. We all love food, and we love eating it. On top of that, training hard leaves your body crying out for food.
Coupling an intensive training program with a caloric deficit is extremely difficult. Most people stick to it 90% of the time, but they set themselves back with an extra large Domino’s pizza and a litre of Dr. Pepper.
That’s why we like to use fat burners that have something to help with hunger. Grenade Thermo Detonator looks like it might be missing this important piece!
So, does Grenade Thermo Detonator really work?
How does it compare to the best fat burners in the world right now?
Find out by reading our full Grenade Thermo Detonator review below. We delve deeper into the formula, examining the ingredients, serving sizes, and side effects. We’ll talk value for money too. Have you used this fat burner yourself? Please share your experiences in the comments!
Grenade Thermo Detonator Formula
Let’s take a look at the Grenade Thermo Detonator ingredients:
Overall, this is definitely a formula of two halves – one good, one not so good.
Grenade Thermo Detonator gives you a very good serving of caffeine, which will help keep you energized, motivated, and fired up for your workouts. It will increase fat metabolism, and reduce appetite a little.
It also gives you a decent serving of cayenne powder, which will trigger thermogenesis.
But then we get an absolutely tiny serving of green coffee bean extract – something that should be one of the biggest ingredients!
As stated above, there’s also nothing in here to really help with over-eating or food cravings. We expect all top quality fat burners to help you with portion control, and to make fasting/eating smaller meals easier.
Nothing in Grenade Thermo Detonator does that!
Overall, this isn’t a bad fat burner at all. Unfortunately, it is far from the best too. We think there are plenty of products available in the UK for people looking for some extra help during their next cutting phase.
Let’s go into all this in a little more detail.
- Good serving of caffeine
- Very good serving of cayenne powder
One thing the guys at Grenade got exactly right here is the Cayenne powder. Each serving of Thermo Detonator gives us 200mg of Cayenne Chili powder.
Cayenne chilies contain a lot of capsaicin, which is the oil in chilies that make them so damn hot! Consuming capsaicin in any form triggers a heat response from your body. Basically, your body experiences capsaicin as an irritant, and it treats it like it would a burn. You start to sweat, your heart rate increases, your breathing becomes more rapid, and so on.
All of this requires extra calories – a lot of them.
By consuming cayenne powder, you can significantly increase your baseline caloric expenditure. This puts you into a deeper relative caloric deficit without having to do more exercise or eat less food.
Most good fat burners use just 100mg of Cayenne powder, which is more than enough to see benefits.
Grenade Thermo Detonator is a real thermogenic – 200mg will have you sweating like crazy, especially if you take this fat burner right before you hit the gym.
Another big selling point of Grenade Thermo Detonator is the caffeine content.
Most fat burners should utilize caffeine (unless it is purpose-designed to be stimulant free). Caffeine is an incredible natural fat burner. It decreases the feeling of fatigue, improves focus, and it directly increases fat metabolism (ref).
Now, if you’re also using a pre-workout, or you consume lots of caffeine throughout the day anyway, we wouldn’t advise using a fat burner that contains caffeine. It is an extremely powerful stimulant – it isn’t to be taken lightly.
But using caffeine right before your workout can really help you get through your sets and reps despite being tired and low on calories. Not only because it decreases the perception of fatigue, but also because of the psychological effect it has on motivation.
Each serving of Grenade Thermo Detonator contains 225mg of caffeine. This is about the same as 3 espressos. If broken up into 3 equal servings throughout the day, this is ideal for increasing energy without putting you at risk of experiencing side effects.
- Tiny serving of green coffee bean extract
- No appetite suppressant
- Bitter orange does NOTHING for fat loss!
Sadly, there are many more weaknesses to this formula than strengths.
One of the main problems is the fact that Bitter Orange Extract – one of the main ingredients in Grenade Thermo Detonator – doesn’t actually do anything for fat loss!
The active ingredient in Bitter Orange is a compound called synephrine.
Many people claim that synephrine increases metabolism and directly promotes lipolysis (fat burning). They say it does this because it is structurally similar to ephedrine; a potent stimulant and fat burner.
There are two massive problems with this.
For one thing, the fact that two things look similar when you draw their structure does not mean they act the same in the human body. That’s like saying breathing carbon monoxide is similar to breathing carbon dioxide because they are ‘structurally similar’.
A bigger problem is the fact that there are no independent, conclusive studies showing that synephrine supplementation aids with fat loss.
There is 420mg of Bitter Orange Extract in each serving of Grenade Thermo Detonator. It is the second largest ingredient after green tea. That’s a sizable chunk of the formula not actively helping you reach your goals – a serious let down in our opinion.
Another big problem is the fact that a key ingredient – Green Coffee Bean – has been dosed way too low for our liking.
Green coffee bean is one of the best natural fat burners in existence. A compound in green coffee beans called chlorogenic acid helps prevent insulin spikes, stabilizes blood sugar, and generally helps you remain in a state where your body does not aggressively try to store body fat.
However, you need to be taking enough of the stuff for it to have any kind of effect on body fat accumulation.
Grenade Thermo Detonator only provides 10mg of this potentially incredible ingredient. By contrast, Instant Knockout contains 100mg, and many other fat burners contain much more. We highly doubt that you’ll notice any real difference from 10mg of green coffee bean extract.
The fact that we once again don’t know the extract strength is big problem too.
Pricing – How Much Is Grenade Thermo Detonator?
Grenade Thermo Detonator costs £44.99 for a 100 capsule bottle.
The recommended use instructions tell you to take 2 capsules in the morning on an empty stomach, and 2 capsules later on in the day before training.
So at 4 capsules per day, the 100 capsule bottle will last you for 25 days.
This gives us a per day cost of £1.79.
That is quite expensive for a fat burner, particularly one with such a large amount of useless dead weight and such small serving sizes in places.
We think you could save a considerable amount of money buying cayenne and green tea powders individually and making your own stack. There’s no point spending good money on bitter orange or such a small amount of green coffee bean!
Thermo Detonator Side Effects – Is It Safe?
So what about side effects – is Grenade Thermo Detonator safe?
We think Grenade Thermo Detonator looks generally safe for the vast majority of users.
The ingredients in Grenade Thermo Detonator are all very common in fat burners today. The majority of supplement on the market right now contain some of these ingredients in one combination or another.
What’s more, all of them have been tested for use as supplements, and they’ve all been found to be generally safe for human consumption.
That said, there are two big safety concerns regarding Thermo Detonator’s ingredients.
The first is the synephrine content. We actually don’t know how much synephrine is in each daily serving of Thermo Detonator. It could be a hell of a lot more than we think, or it could be less than average. We just don’t know.
While synephrine is not like ephedrine. However, if it does have any similar effects to ephedrine, you’re probably going to experience some of the following side effects:
- Light headedness
- Erratic heart beat
The fact that we don’t think synephrine has any fat burning potential means these side effects are all for nothing. Why take that risk?
Another concern is – of course – the caffeine content.
Caffeine is an extremely powerful stimulant. Just a few hundred milligrams will cause side effects in everybody, regardless of how good you think your tolerance is.
Thermo Detonator contains 225mg of caffeine. For reference, a single shot of espresso usually contains about 75mg. So this fat burner provides about 3 shots of espresso per day.
We strongly advise splitting up the doses throughout the day as the manufacturer says to. Taking more than 2 capsules at once will almost definitely produce some serious side effects, including:
- Loss of focus
- Elevated heart rate
- Shortness of breath
Consuming large amounts of caffeine for an extended period of time may increase your risk of heart disease.
It’s also important to note that caffeine overdoses can be fatal.
You need to calculate your existing caffeine intake before adding any more in through supplements – IT ALL COUNTS!
It is really important that you get proper medical advice from your regular doctor before using any fat burners at all. You need to do your own research and consult multiple sources too. We don’t know anything about your particular circumstances; all we’re doing here is highlighting the most obvious dangers for the average user.
- We are not doctors
- This is not medical advice.
If you experience any side effects whatsoever while using Grenade Thermo Detonator, cease using it immediately and seek medical attention.
Grenade Thermo Detonator Review Conclusion – Is It Any Good?
In our opinion, Grenade Thermo Detonator is a pretty mediocre fat burner.
It has some strong selling points – a good dose of caffeine, 4 capsules per day for convenient dosing, plenty of green tea.
But it has far more weaknesses – no appetite suppressant, 10mg of green coffee bean extract instead of the standard 100mg, 420mg of useless bitter orange.
When you weight it all up, the weaknesses far outweigh the strengths here.
Grenade Thermo Detonator is easily one of the most popular fat burners in the UK. It is extremely popular in Europe and the US too. We have absolutely no idea why.
If you want help getting the most out of your next cut, we suggest opting for a more refined, focused, and powerful fat burner.
When should I take Grenade Thermo Detonator?
According to the bottle, you should take two capsules of Grenade Thermo Detonator upon waking with water, and two more capsules before lunch with water. Both doses should be consumed on an empty stomach.
However, we think the best way to take Grenade Thermo Detonator is to take your second dose of 2 capsules about 30 minutes before you hit the gym. This will make sure you’re full of energy and sweating like crazy during training.
How much caffeine is in Grenade Thermo Detonator?
Grenade Thermo Detonator contains 225mg of caffeine. That is quite a lot of caffeine – about the equivalent of 3 shots of espresso. Of course, that is the total daily dose of caffeine from Grenade Thermo Detonator, not the amount of caffeine per dose. For most users, this is a safe and sustainable level of caffeine intake (at least for the duration of a cut).
Is Grenade Thermo Detonator legal for sport?
There are no banned substances in Grenade Thermo Detonator. Using Grenade Thermo Detonator will not get you banned from any sports federations, or disqualified from any weight lifting meets or bodybuilding shows in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, or Europe.
Is Grenade Thermo Detonator any good?
In short, we don’t think Grenade Thermo Detonator is a very good fat burner. However, the full answer is a little more complicated than that! We need to be fair to Grenade, so please read our full Grenade Thermo Detonator review above!
