True Grit Test Booster
True Grit Test Booster is not the potent, professional bodybuilding supplement it makes itself out to be. The ingredient choice has been terrible here. There are only three ingredients in this stack capable of affecting testosterone levels in some way. One of these – Ashwagandha – is dosed pretty low. Another – boron – is dosed about right. The final ingredient is present only in its natural form; we have no idea how much DIM we actually get from True Grit Test Booster because it contains whole broccoli powder. We’ve never seen that before, and we really don’t want to see it again! Whole plant powders are pretty useless, especially when we’re talking about a food as cheap and commonplace as broccoli! The rest of the formula is just pointless garbage.
All in all, True Grit Test Booster is a bit of a waste of time for anyone who wants to see a real, genuine increase in serum testosterone levels.
Our True Grit Test Booster Review
True Grit Test Booster has remained one of the most consistently popular products on the internet since its launch a few years ago. It is has hundreds of reviews on all of the main bodybuilding forums, and they are overwhelmingly pretty positive. However, the testosterone booster market has advanced a lot over the last couple of years.
Is True Grit Test Booster still any good?
What does it claim to do? How does it work?
It’s clear from the bottle that this product is supposed to be a complete testosterone booster. It lists the three primary benefits that we want a testosterone booster to deliver:
- Increases testosterone production
- Decreases cortisol
- Reduces estrogen
It’s really refreshing to see a supplement that is confident enough in its abilities to be specific about what it actually does, rather than just saying vague, abstract things like “improves vitality” or “boosts performance”.
So if the promises made by the manufacturer are anything to go by, this sounds like a damn fine natural testosterone supplement.
But are these claims true?
Does True Grit Test Booster really work?
How well does it work? Can it compete with the best products on sale today?
Find out by reading the complete True Grit Test Booster review below. We tear the formula apart, exposing its main strengths and all of its key weaknesses. Have you used True Grit Test Booster before? What did you get from it? Share your experiences in the comments!
True Grit Test Booster Formula
Let’s get straight into the meat of this product. Here is the formula:
That’s not exactly the professional-quality formula we were hoping to see – far from it.
Right away we see some serious red flags.
We have whole broccoli powder, which is kind of ridiculous to put into an expensive supplement. If you want to get more broccoli in, just eat more broccoli! The amount of DIM in broccoli is very small, which is why supplements usually provide purified, standardized DIM rather than whole plant powder.
That in itself is a SERIOUS flaw in this product.
We also note than some of the ingredients don’t actually influence testosterone production at all.
Fenugreek – which is the main ingredient – boosts libido without increasing testosterone levels.
Shilajit powder doesn’t do a thing to any of your hormones.
Bladderwrack has no scientifically-proven testosterone boosting properties.
The only good ingredients in here, aside from the under-dosed DIM, are Ashwagandha and Boron. Both of these have been pretty severely under-dosed too.
Overall then, we’re not dealing with a high quality product here.
True Grit Test Booster is a weak product full of useless ingredients and some pretty pointless whole plant powder. The best ingredients have been severely under-dosed. Results from using this testosterone booster are going to be minimal, especially compared to some of the other products on the market right now promising the same benefits.
Let’s go through the main weaknesses of this product together, starting with the most serious.
Main Weakness – Ineffective Ingredients
There are a bunch of issues with this stack, so it was quite difficult to settle on the most damaging. But in the end, we managed.
The main problem with True Grit Test Booster is that a large proportion of the formula is dedicated to ingredients that don’t actively increase testosterone. As you might imagine, this is pretty serious for a product describing itself as a testosterone supplement.
The best example of this is the main ingredient – Fenugreek Seed Extract.
Fenugreek is often included in natural testosterone boosters because it has repeatedly been shown to improve various aspects of libido. Robust, peer-reviewed studies have shown that fenugreek supplementation – when in the form of a potent seed extract – improves sexual desire, orgasm quality, and sexual performance (ref).
However, most of the studies which looked at how Fenugreek Extract affected testosterone levels found it to be completely ineffective.
In this trial, for example, researchers found that 500mg of a potent Fenugreek Extract failed to influence hormone levels. The researchers stated:
“Although a between group difference was noted for free testosterone at T2 and T3, it has limited relevance due to the fact that it did not significantly change over time…This evidence coincides with our finding, which implies that the commercially available supplement lacks the potential for altering hormone values in combination with a resistance training regimen. Therefore, it is assumed that daily consumption of the 500 mg commercially available supplement in conjunction with a resistance training program has no anabolic effect on the hormonal status of resistance trained males.” (Published 2010 in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition).
This is not the only peer-reviewed paper showing that Fenugreek improves libido independently of hormones. It is pretty much conclusive fact that Fenugreek doesn’t increase testosterone – there’s no real room for discussion on this.
Yet True Grit decided to use it as the primary ingredient in their testosterone booster. This alone is enough to put us off buying this supplement.
Major Weakness – Key Ingredients Are Under-Dosed
The use of ineffective ingredients isn’t the only thing holding this testosterone booster back.
A serious weakness in this formula is the fact that it has many of the good ingredients seriously under-dosed. This leaves them incapable of having the truly noticeable effect on your physique, strength gains, and recovery we know they can when dosed properly!
Take the Ashwagandha content, for example.
Ashwagandha is a tremendous anxiolytic. It is one of the most effective substances for reducing anxiety, promoting sleep, and promoting calm, steady focus when you need it most.
It also makes for a powerful testosterone booster through its interactions with cortisol (which is also why it is such a good anxiolytic).
As many of you will be aware, cortisol and testosterone DO NOT MIX. Higher cortisol levels means lower testosterone levels. This is why chronically stressed people – including athletes who place their body under constant stress – will see a steady decline in their testosterone levels over time (hence why many athletes eventually turn to testosterone injections).
Studies have shown that supplementing with Ashwagandha significantly reduces cortisol levels. However, in cases where significant reductions in cortisol have been observed, relatively large doses of ashwagandha have been used (ref).
Similarly, studies where ashwagandha supplementation has led to a significant increase in free serum testosterone levels, about 300mg or more of top quality extract has been used (ref).
True Grit Test Booster provides just 125mg of Ashwagandha Extract. This is significantly lower than the amounts used in the studies cited above. It is also considerably lower than the servings you get from many other premium testosterone boosters.
On top of that, the extract used in True Grit Test Booster is not particularly high quality. It is a root and leaf extract, and the exact potency of active ingredients is not specified. We’re not beholden to a brand per se, but most of the good testosterone boosters on the market today use KSM-66, which is a full spectrum, highly potent, standardized extract.
True Grit have really missed the mark on this one! If you’re going to charge premium prices for your supplement, then you need to make sure the best ingredients are of the highest quality and at proper doses. They’ve done neither here.
True Grit Test Booster Side Effects – What Can I Expect?
In our opinion, True Grit Test Booster looks unlikely to cause any serious side effects.
It actually doesn’t look like it is going to cause even mild side effects in the vast majority of users – the exceptions being of course those of you who have unusual allergies, are currently taking medication that interacts with these ingredients, or those of you with pre-existing medical conditions that make these substances unsuitable.
On the whole though, for the average (otherwise healthy) user, True Grit Test Booster looks perfectly safe for regular use.
The ingredients used in this formula are all natural herbal extracts vitamins and minerals. They are widely used and very well understood. Plenty of testosterone boosters on the market today use the same ingredients in various combinations. There’s nothing in here that we have never seen before.
There’s none of the red flags that usually lead us to warn people off a product – no pro-hormones, no exogenous sex hormones, no nasty synthetic chemicals, and no insane doses.
What’s more, each ingredient in True Grit Test Booster has been thoroughly tested on humans in clinical conditions. As we explained above, these studies didn’t necessarily find that they were effective testosterone boosters, but the papers we have read did not raise any notable safety concerns.
Each ingredient has been deemed safe for regular, long-term human consumption. There is no reason to think that this exact combination will produce unforeseen side effects that the scientific literature failed to discuss.
Overall then, this looks like a pretty safe testosterone booster.
However, that is not to say that it is definitely safe for all of you.
We don’t know you personally, so we can’t give you detailed, tailored safety advice. We aren’t doctors either, so we cannot cover every single possible adverse effect, nor can we factor in things like medications you might be on, or allergies you might have.
That’s why you NEED to talk to a doctor before using any testosterone boosters.
It is absolutely vital that you remember the following while reading our supplement reviews:
- This is not medical advice
- We are not doctors
You must do your own research and talk to your regular physician before trying any testosterone boosting supplements. We are only highlighting the most obvious risks according to our research and experience. Just because a supplement looks safe for 99% of people does not mean that it is safe for you too!
True Grit Test Booster Review Conclusion – Worth A Try?
In all honesty, we really don’t think this is much of a testosterone booster. True Grit Test Booster does contain some effective ingredients, but the doses are just too low – other professional products on the market today provide the same ingredients at much higher doses, and more.
Much of the formula is dedicated to dead weight. There is absolutely 0% chance that shilajit or bladderwrack are going to make a big difference to your testosterone levels.
Broccoli does contain a certain amount of DIM, but the percentage is tiny; that’s why supplements tend to use extracts rather than whole plant powder. If you think 250mg of broccoli is going to sky-rocket your testosterone levels, then just have an extra few clumps with dinner!
We’ve actually never seen a manufacturer be so lazy as to just use powdered broccoli before.
All things considered, True Grit Test Booster is a poor supplement. If you want to see real results, we recommend taking it seriously and investing in a truly professional quality testosterone booster.
Look for a formula that covers more than one aspect of low test-fixing. Avoid whole plant powders and weak extracts. At the end of the day, if you stick to tried and true products, you’ll see the results you’re looking for.
